Williamstown, Mass.—The Clark Art Institute announces two spring concerts: The Lao Tizer Quartet, featuring Grammy-winning sax legend Eric Marienthal, performs Friday, April 5 at 7:30 pm, followed by jazz trumpeter Jonathan Dely and his swinging band on Saturday, May 18 at 7 pm. Tickets for The Lao Tizer Quartet are $33 ($28 Clark members; $20 students with valid ID) and tickets for Jonathan Dely are $28 ($25 Clark members, $20 students with valid ID). The Lao Tizer Quartet, a “Jazz Group of the Year” nominee, makes their debut at the Clark in support of their new Billboard Jazz Top 10 CD/DVD release, Songs from the Swinghouse. Led by pianist, keyboardist, composer, and former “Best New Jazz Artist” nominee Lao Tizer, the quartet also features Grammy-winning sax legend Eric Marienthal, Grammy-nominated drummer Gene Coye, and Senegalese bassist Cheikh N’Doye.

About The Lao Tizer Band
With more than five years since their last release, The Lao Tizer Band is now
an updated, larger band exploring new methods in music, as heard on the recent
CD/DVD Songs from the
Swinghouse, recorded live in just three days at Conway Studios
in Hollywood. The album includes three cover tunes with a vocalist, a first for
the group, alongside original instrumental tracks, bringing them to new heights
of excellence and exuberance.
Featuring a thoughtful and at times surprising choice of tracks, while adding
to an already stellar lineup of players with the addition of a seasoned
vocalist, this album sets a new path for the band and its dedicated fans. Songs from the Swinghouse features
eight blistering original instrumentals and three iconic classic rock songs
with reimagined arrangements. “We’ve never done anything with a vocalist and
we’ve never done any cover songs, so this is the first time that I decided to
delve into that realm, to basically expand the scope of our music,” says Tizer.
About Jonathan Dely
Jonathan Dely, 25, is an award-winning trumpet soloist from Long Island, New York. Named a finalist in the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Competition, the National Trumpet Competition, and the Yamaha Performing Artist Competition, Dely graduated with Latin honors from Williams College, where he served as the college’s teaching assistant in jazz and upon graduation was awarded the prestigious Arthur Judson Prize in music. During his senior year, Dely declined a full-time investment banking position on Wall Street, where he worked the previous summer, in order to pursue his dream of becoming a solo trumpet artist. Shortly thereafter, he was accepted on scholarship to the graduate program in jazz trumpet performance at the Manhattan School of Music, where he earned his master’s degree in 2017.
In New York, Dely has become a prolific performer at venues including Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center, Blue Note NYC, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Django, Highline Ballroom, and the Princeton Club of New York, where he serves as Artist in Residence. He is recognized as a rising star in New York, with his band in high demand for events ranging from private engagements to ticketed concerts.
About the Clark
The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
