Lenox, Mass. – Get your blankets, your sleeping bags, your dog and cats and pack your in-car picnics…THE BERKSHIRE DRIVE-IN is here! The Berkshire International Film Festival and Shakespeare and Company have teamed up this summer to present The Berkshire Drive-In; a “Pop-up Drive-in” summer series on the campus of Shakespeare and Company in Lenox. Films are shown Thursday through Sunday evenings beginning July 23 and continuing through September 13, 2020. The series will present nearly 40 curated films including a unique variety of documentaries, narrative features, Sundance hits, Shakespeare-themed films, family films and award-winning animated films curated by Palm Springs International Animation Festival.
The opening weekend will kick-off with Academy Award-winning director Barbara Kopple’s incredible new film DESERT ONE. On Friday night, we celebrate the legendary Olympia Dukakis with the documentary OLYMPIA, screened in partnership with the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Saturday, we will present the moving and timely film WOMEN IN BLUE and we will close the weekend with an Award-Winning Animated Shorts Collection, in partnership with the Palm Springs International Animated Festival. The full list of films are below and can also be found at www.biffma.org.
Tickets are $15 per person (kids under 10 are free) and go on sale today, Thursday, July 16 through the BIFF website www.biffma.org.
Gates open at 7:30PM with show time at 8:30PM until August 15th when films will begin at 8:15PM. Cars will not be permitted to enter the grounds after the film begins. We have a ticket-less policy, so please print out your ticket at home or have them available on your phone. We will also have a check-in of names when you enter. The sound for the film is generated through your car radio or can also be heard on a portable radio. Parking at the drive-in is first come, first served and if you want to park next to friends, please arrive at the same time. Guests must stay in the cars at all times but an emergency bathroom will be available if necessary. Cars will be parked 10 feet apart and the engine must be shut off once parked. When not in your car you MUST wear a face mask. We are working with area restaurants to provide potential BIFF picnic boxes for pick up at the restaurant…more later. Operations of the event will strictly follow all the CDC guidelines. Rain dates will be decided by 4PM the day of the screening and will be scheduled for the following Monday.
