Stockbridge, Mass.February 3 – William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty announced today the record-breaking property sale of a historic Berkshire Cottage in Stockbridge, Mass. The property, located at 3 Ice Glen Road, sold for $6,750,000 and was represented by agent Pat Melluzzo. The previous price record in the Berkshires was last set in 2007.

Villa Virginia, one of the approximately 75 renowned Berkshire Cottages built in the Lenox and Stockbridge, Mass., areas during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, sits on 58 acres, has mountain views, abuts protected lands and is close to town. The home, built in 1915, serves as an example of the Mediterranean Renaissance Revival architecture style, with the architect H. Hobart Weekes of the New York firm Hill and Weekes drawing inspiration from a villa in the Sabine Hills of Italy. The landscape architect was Ferruccio Vitale.

Today, the home boasts a total of 13 bedrooms including 10 in the main house and three in the Snuggery, the freestanding carriage barn guest house. Villa Virginia has a modern, country style kitchen with oversized island, Corian countertops and Sub-Zero refrigerators; a dining room with pink marble columns and a table that comfortably seats 14; a spacious main salon overlooking the terrace, with polished floors, coffered ceiling and one of the four main-floor fireplaces; and a seasonal loggia with hand-painted cherubs, zodiacal signs on the ceiling and a fountain that is original to the house. The home has been restored to honor its historic roots while incorporating the latest technology.

“This is such a special and unique property, a rarity to find in any property market,” said Melluzzo. “It was a privilege to bring this exceptional property to the market and ultimately play a part in another owner starting their own chapter in this home’s storied history.”
