Great Barrington, Mass. – Fairview Hospital will sponsor “Together…. Every Step of the Way,” a virtual race on Memorial Day Weekend to support Construct, Inc. a non-profit dedicated to change and save lives through housing options and a continuum of related services in order to assist many individuals and families in our community who are facing housing instability during this uncertain time. The fundraising event is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the close relationship between housing instability and health status.
The event (walk or run) can be completed in one’s own neighborhood, at a favorite running trail or park, or even on the treadmill (while maintaining social distancing). Participants can complete a 5K, 10K or half-marathon or just a few symbolic steps in recognition of the event’s purpose. A donation of $20.00 is requested but gifts of all sizes are welcome and will be directed to the cause.
Participants can register at Berkshire Running Centers where they will find a link to download the event’s official bib or they can create their own. There will be no gifts or T-shirts in order to direct all proceeds to the cause.
According to organizer Sophie Veinoglou, NP, “We recognize that there is a close relationship between a stable home and its impact on health. In recent weeks, the “shelter in place” order presumes that you have a home to go to but with the closure of local businesses, more people are looking for help to secure a stable home, to pay the rent and to continue being a landlord. We are partnering with Construct because their mission is to help people get housing. We see that there is a growing and immediate need and Fairview Hospital invites the community to participate in helping our neighbors”.
